THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA VISIT
29-30 April, the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus made a two-day state visit to the Republic of Estonia, accompanied by a delegation of entrepreneurs from Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts.As part of the visit, the President met with Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, and President of the Riigikogu Ene Ergma. The President had bilateral meetings to discuss cooperation between the Baltic States on EU policies and energy issues and to exchange views on international and Eastern policy concerns.Lithuania’s President was conferred an Honorary Doctoral degree and gave a lecture “Baltic States in the Changing Europe: New Role or Responsibility?” for students of the Tallinn University.The President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Mrs. Evelin Ilves hosted an official dinner in the honour of President Valdas Adamkus and Mrs. Alma Adamkienė.On the second day of the visit, President Adamkus visited NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellency and Tallinn Technology Park Development Foundation, participated in round table discussion on the establishment of innovation parks in Estonia and Lithuania and met with Lithuanian community in Estonia. Later in the day, Lithuania’s President participated in the opening of the exhibition “The Chronicles of the Violence” at the Occupations Museum, dedicated to the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of June 1941 deportations.
