Photo Exhibition Vilnius, 700 Years Young Opens at the University of Tartu

On September 22, a photo exhibition Vilnius, 700 Years Young was opened at the Institute of Foreign Languages and Cultures of the University of Tartu.

The exhibition is dedicated to the 700th anniversary of Vilnius, commemorated this year in connection to a 1323 letter of Grand Duke Gediminas where Vilnius was mentioned for the first time in history. It features historical photographs of Vilnius from the archives of the National Museum of Lithuania, as well as pictures of present day Vilnius.

At the opening of the exhibition, Ambassador of Lithuania to Estonia Raimonda Murmokaitė pointed out that ever since the XIV century Vilnius has remained open and welcoming to all kinds of people, and invited everyone to rediscover the capital of Lithuania. Ambassador Murmokaitė also stressed that it was very symbolic that the University of Tartu hosted the exhibition, since both Vilnius and Tartu universities take their roots at decisions by the same ruler – King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Stephen Báthory.

Exhibition Vilnius, 700 Years Young will continue until the end of October.
