LITHUANIAN STATE ORDERS PRESENTED AT THE LITHUANIAN EMBASSY IN TALLINN
Lithuanian Ambassador Neilas Tankevičius presented Lithuanian state orders to the creators of Skype, one of the world’s most popular programs.
The President of the Republic of Lithuania awarded Estonian programmers and entrepreneurs Priit Kasesalu, Jaan Tallinn and Ahti Heinle Cross of the Knight of the Order for Merits on the occasion of the Estonian state visit to Lithuania (May 27-29, 2013). During the ceremony the Ambassador noted that Estonia and Lithuania can proudly claim having created one of the world’s best information technology infrastructures, but even more importantly can boast having many well educated and talented people. Remarkably successful projects like Skype in Estonia or Pixelmator and GetJar in Lithuania inspired a whole generation of young people in the Baltic States to venture creating new IT products or starting a business of their own. Because of that potential of bilateral and regional cooperation in IT and telecommunication is also growing fast.
During her Presidency of the EU Council Lithuania will focus on the EU's digital agenda including digital market development, cyber security questions, broadband development and other important issues.
