In Tallinn: Baltic Prime Ministers Focus on Strategic Infrastructure Projects and Regional Security
At the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Baltic Council of Ministers held in Tallinn on Friday, the heads of government of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia focused primarily on strengthening regional security, defense capabilities, and the response to hybrid threats.
They discussed the need to further strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, increase the presence of allies in the region, invest in air and missile defense, and enhance the protection of critical infrastructure. They assessed hybrid threats, including cyberattacks, border provocations, and incidents involving weather balloons and other unmanned objects.
“Today’s security environment requires a united and resolute response—we must strengthen our defense, our resilience to hybrid threats, and work together with our allies,” the Prime Minister emphasized, noting that Lithuania will allocate 5.38 percent of its gross domestic product to defense in 2026.
The meeting also focused on progress in strategic infrastructure projects. Particular emphasis was placed on the implementation of “Rail Baltica” by 2030, highlighting its importance for military mobility and regional security. The Via Baltica and energy interconnection projects, which strengthen the integration of the Baltic states into European networks, were also discussed.
The prime ministers reaffirmed their continued support for Ukraine and agreed to strengthen coordination among the Baltic states and transatlantic ties.
