Exhibition about the Baltic Way opened in Tallinn

Opening of the exhibition devoted to the Baltic Way anniversary took place in Tallinn Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom on August 10th , 2020. The exhibition presents archival material and screening of a short documentary “The Inimitable Baltic Way“ presenting one of the greatest event aimed towards regaining political independence of the Baltic countries. This peaceful political demonstration of liberty happened at 19:00 on 23rd August 1989 in the form of a human chain of approximately two million inhabitants of the Baltic States joined hands from Tallinn through Riga to Vilnius. Presented historical pictures and documents merge with memories shared by ordinary people, organisers of the event and famous political figures, such as professor Vytautas Landsbergis, Romuald Ražuks and Enn Eesmaa.

During the exhibition opening the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Estonia Mr. Giedrius Apuokas together with representative of Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom Ms. Maia–Liisa Anton shared their thoughts about the historical importance of the Baltic Way towards regaining independence. Exhibition created by the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry and Lithuania Central State Archives, organized by the Embassy of Lithuania in Estonia will be open to the public until 30th of August.
