Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Lithuania’s ambassador to Estonia
Friday, July 28, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Giedrius Apuokas, Lithuanian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Estonia.
The President and the newly appointed Ambassador discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Estonia, economic and business cooperation as well as energy and regional security issues. The President pointed out that Lithuania and Estonia maintained a very close, friendly and dynamic relationship. Both countries shared a strong aspiration to enhance military, energy, information and cyber security in the region, effectively implement NATO’s deterrence and defense measures, synchronize the Baltic power grids with Western Europe, protect strategic infrastructure from cyber attacks, and prevent the spread of lies and propaganda.
Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that Lithuania was ready to share its experience of presiding over the European Union. This could be particularly useful for Estonia now that it has assumed EU presidency.
Giedrius Apuokas started his diplomatic career in 1991. He was Ambassador-at-Large for cyber security, worked at the Lithuanian embassy in the Czech Republic, also as Consul General in Chicago and Ambassador in Armenia. He was awarded the Cross of the Knight of the Order for Merits to Lithuania for his service during Lithuania’s accession to the European Union. The Ambassador speaks English, Russian, Slovak, Polish, and German.
